In describing the reign of the king of righteousness, Isaiah tells us that many things will change upon His arrival. Blindness will no longer claim the eyes of those who see. The foolish who corrupt this world will no longer be called noble, but will be exposed for what they truly are. And then, sandwiched in between all of this is a beautiful, “the heart of the hasty will understand and know.”

A hasty heart is what this world of sin and chaos so often yields, isn’t it? People devour you with their sins. They toss their cruelty at you and you have no idea how to get away from it, so you panic and act without thinking, without praying, without mindfulness and you end up dragging yourself into sin in the process. Temptation overwhelms you and you get turned upside down and you don’t know how to flee from it. You don’t know how to climb out of the pit so, in haste, you start digging down. Haste, hurry, panic, confusion. That’s so much of our life in this world of sin. We don’t know what to do, don’t know where to go, don’t know what to think.

Be at peace. The Lord who found you in the chaos and confusion is coming soon. He is coming to clothe you in the victory and the peace He won for you with His bloody cross and empty tomb. And on the day when He arrives, the haste of your mind will melt away eternally. Your heart won’t race. Your hands won’t tremble. Your eyes won’t dart around trying to figure out where you should go and what you should do. You will know all. You will understand all. You will see the face of your Savior and you will comprehend His love and rest in His arms forever. The hour of peaceful understanding is coming. And because it’s coming, you can have it right now.
